Why Should You Do A Newborn Photography Session?

Why Do A Session?

As a parent, you want to capture every moment of your baby's life. Newborn photography is one way to do this. The benefits of newborn photography include:

  • Recording memories for generations to come

  • Creating keepsakes that can be shared with family and friends

  • Having beautiful images from which you can print photos to decorate your home

The Benefits of Professional Photography

When you hire a professional photographer, you can be sure that the images they produce will be of the highest quality. This is because they have experience with photographing newborns and know how to pose them in order to get the best shot.

Professional photographers also use editing software that allows them to make adjustments and can do retouching so that every photo looks its best when it comes time for printing.

In addition to this, many professional photographers offer additional services such as props and backdrops for your shoot! This gives you more options when choosing what type of photos you want taken

Creating Lasting Memories

The benefits of newborn photography are numerous and will last a lifetime. Not only do you get to capture your baby's first moments, but you also get to create lasting memories that can be cherished for years to come.

  • Print and frame images: Whether it's an 8x10 or 11x14 print, having photos in frames on display around your home is a great way to show off your little one's cuteness! And as your child grows, they will feel loved growing with photos of themselves all over the walls.

  • Create a photo album: A great way to preserve those precious moments is by creating an album filled with all the photos taken during this special time period in your life. This will allow future generations to see photos of their ancestors to enjoy and share.

What to Expect from a Newborn Photography Session

Below are things to expect from a session with me and also how to prepare:

  • Upon arrival, we will look through the wraps, backdrop and accessories that you can choose from. I will guide you through the process and help you choose if needed.

  • We will start with family/sibling photos unless otherwise arranged. If you have an older child or children, you are welcome to have them stay through the “baby only” portion of session, but be aware that those photos often go more smoothly without the distraction of their siblings. If you live nearby, often the spouse will take the kids back home (or back to school) and then come pick up mama and baby after the session is done. But it’s totally up to you.

  • Feel free to feed your baby at any time that is best for you ahead of the session or during the session. We will work around your baby’s schedule as they are the top priority

  • The temperature of the studio is set a little warmer than most indoor spaces. This is to make sure your newborn is comfortable since they are still used to a warm womb. If you feel too warm at any time, please let me know as your comfort is just as important!

  • If you are doing family photos and need advice for everyone’s outfits, I know you may be in that weird in between stage between the maternity wear and pre-pregnancy wear b/c of swelling. So wear anything that you feel comfortable in, a flowy dress or top can be good. Just try to stay away from busy patterns if possible to keep focus on the baby. Amazon is a great place to find something for quick delivery with easy returns if you need something in a pinch.

  • I may be taking close ups of each family member’s hands with the baby.  Just a heads up in case any nail grooming is needed ahead of time. (This doesn’t mean you have to go out and get manicure).

  • The studio has a bathroom, changing station, wipes, coffee, tea and water for your comfort.

  • The bulk of session time is feeding/changing and sometimes some patience in waiting for your baby to fall asleep for each setup.  If you would like your baby in poses, it can sometimes take some time for the baby to settle into them, so please don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t happen right away.  There are times when even after all of our efforts, the baby won’t fall into a deep enough sleep to pose.  But photos can be just as beautiful of your baby alert or just sleeping on their backs.  Posing requires a very deep sleep. The first 2 weeks are usually the easiest to for sleepy babies as they very quickly become stronger and more alert. There is never a guarantee but I will do my best to get them sleepy and posed.

  • If your baby is taking a bottle or pacifier, please be sure to bring those along. If you are breastfeeding, I will give you time and privacy to feed as needed. The studio has a rocking chair, changing table, snacks and drinks to make these breaks as comfortable as possible.

  • Please be sure to iron or steam clothing before your session or bring iron/steamed clothing on a hanger and change in the studio to prevent wrinkles from showing in photos. I will not be able to photoshop wrinkles in clothing in post processing.
